Prof. Dr. Raimund Bleischwitz, a DAAD/AGI research fellow in May and June 2013, has recently published a paper in the journal Global Environmental Politics, building on his research conducted while at AGI.

In his essay “Transparency in the Extractive Industries: Time to Ask for More,” Prof. Dr. Bleischwitz discusses efforts to establish financial transparency in the extractive sector, an issue which is relevant particularly due to the high levels of corruption in resource-rich developing countries. Current efforts are not ambitious or effective enough. More stringent transparency controls should be demanded, not only in the financial arena, but also with regard to environmental norms, as synergies exist between information collection in both areas.
