Simone Heil on German-Israeli Youth Exchange

Dr. Simone Heil, Program Director of the Africa and Middle East division of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, sits down with AGI Society, Culture & Politics Program Director Dr. Lily Gardner Feldman for a discussion on youth exchange between Germany and Israel and its impact on the “special relationship” between the two countries. Dr. Heil observed that the history between Germany and the Jewish State, especially the memory of the Holocaust, has continuously generated interest in bilateral youth exchanges since WWII. She also suggests that, while the interest in history persists, the exchanges have experienced an increasing shift of topics toward other issues, including Israel’s conflict with Palestine.
