Quo Vadis G20? – The role of multilateral fora in times of political nationalism

April 19, 2017

The next G20 summit will take place in Hamburg on July 7-8, 2017. As part of the G20’s outreach process, the B20 is the official business dialogue of the G20, representing the entire G20 business community. Together, the leading German business associations BDI (Federation of German Industries), DIHK (Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce), and BDA (Confederation of German Employers’ Associations) hold this year’s B20 Presidency.

In many G20 countries skepticism towards globalization and supranational organizations like the EU is on the rise. How does this affect the work of international organizations? Are less formalized fora like the G7 and G20 a useful tool to maintain dialogue and cooperation at global level? Where is the current B20 process heading to and what are the main topics business would like to see addressed at the G20 forum?

Together with the Representative of German Trade and Industry (RGIT), we are looking forward to welcoming you to a luncheon debate on these topics with:

Dr. Volker Treier, Deputy CEO of the German Chambers of Commerce and Industry (DIHK) and Peter S. Rashish, Senior Fellow and Director of the Geoeconomics Project at AGI.
