Strategies for the European Union in the Third Age of Globalization

March 5, 2019, 8:30 AM

In the inaugural event of the Allianz Geoeconomics Speaker Series, Dr. Michael Huether will address the challenges to the current, slowing wave of globalization begun after the fall of the Berlin Wall and Europe’s role in shaping a coming “third globalization” – more dynamic, more inclusive, and values-based. What assets can Europe draw upon in this future third wave? Dr. Huether is the author of the recently published book Exhausted Globalization – Between the Transatlantic Orientation and the Chinese Way, which has appeared in both English and German.

Dr. Huether has served as Director and Member of the Executive Committee of the German Economic Institute since 2004. He has previously worked in a number of important positions in research, teaching, and banking, including at Stanford University, the German Council of Economic Advisers, and DekaBank. He has a Ph.D. in Economics and History from the Justus Liebig University in Giessen. He was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany by the President of the Republic.
