Michael Diekmann to Receive the 2014 Global Leadership Award from the American-German Institute

Michael Diekmann, Chairman of the Board of Management of Allianz SE (CEO), will receive the 2014 Global Leadership Award from the American-German Institute (AGI) at a gala dinner in New York City on Monday, December 15.

Each year, AGI recognizes the achievements of business pioneers and government leaders who have profoundly shaped the partnership between Germany and the United States. The event highlights the critical role that the German-American partnership plays in transatlantic relations. According to Dr. Jackson Janes, President of the Washington, DC-based think tank, “As a leader in the insurance industry, Mr. Diekmann has contributed greatly to the ties between Germany, Europe, and the United States, and we are delighted to welcome him among the Institute’s distinguished Global Leadership Award recipients.”

Mr. Diekmann has served as Chairman of the Management Board for Allianz SE since April 2003, and has worked at Allianz for twenty-six years. Prior to assuming his role as Chairman of the Board of Management, Mr. Diekmann headed up the Asia-Pacific and North America business arms of Allianz.

This year’s award will be presented to Mr. Diekmann at the Institute’s 20th annual Global Leadership Award Dinner on Monday evening. The gala dinner will be preceded by AGI’s annual symposium entitled “A World in Flux: German-American Relations and a Changing Global Order.” Taking place at the Deutsche Bank office of 60 Wall Street, the conference will explore Germany and America’s roles in shaping the emerging global order and discuss new avenues for transatlantic cooperation. A keynote speech by Robert B. Zoellick, Former President of the World Bank Group and current Chairman of International Advisors at Goldman, Sachs & Co., will address the relative decline of the West’s economic power and how ongoing tensions and conflict in eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Asia have changed geopolitical realities.
