CEO of the adidas Group

On December 13, AICGS held its 17th annual Global Leadership Award Dinner at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City.
AIGCS is very proud to honor Mr. Herbert Hainer, CEO of the adidas Group, for his outstanding leadership in the sports industry and for his enduring positive influence on the German-American partnership.
As events unfold across the world that underscore the interconnectedness of people from disparate backgrounds and varied regions, sport remains the bridge that brings people, cultures, and nations together. Today sport participation is huge and part of the global lifestyle. The whole practice of sport has been woven into weekly, if not daily, routines. In the political realm, “sports diplomacy” builds on what Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton calls “smart power diplomacy.” It embraces the use of a full range of diplomatic tools, including sport, to bring individuals together in order to foster a greater understanding.
Under Mr. Hainer’s direction, adidas has furthered the role of sport in fostering social integration at the local, national, and international level. Events such as the World Cup and the Olympics, which adidas sponsors, highlight this solidarity. Mr. Hainer states that he firmly believes that “sport can bring the world together. Sport has shown this at countless occasions in the past and we are committed to the positive values found in sport: performance and passion, teamwork and fair play.”
These values are apparent in the success of the adidas Group. The sport industry is very product-driven, and in order to remain competitive, adidas must practice innovation at every level. Mr. Hainer’s focus on initiative, efficiency, and speed, as well as honesty to his employees, has brought adidas where it is today.
