Above and Beyond for AICGS

The “Above and Beyond for AICGS” Gift Program is a directed giving program designed to help provide special non-budgeted items above and beyond regular donations.

The program offers members and friends of AICGS the opportunity to provide special gifts for its mission through a Gift Registry that identifies specific needs of the Institute.

Gifts may be given and recognized in celebration of a milestone, such as the anniversary of your favorite AICGS staff member, or to mark a special day in history, such as the 25th anniversary of German reunification (October 3, 2015).

Gifts may also be made in honor or memory of a person to whom the Institute played a major role in their lives. Gifts may be given on a one-time or ongoing basis.

Gifts from the “Above and Beyondgifts registry may be purchased by filling out and mailing us a check with the gift order form, or by submitting the gift order form online. Please specify “Above and Beyond” as the purpose of your donation. If you are donating from Germany, please contact Lynn Van Norstrand at lvn@aicgs.org for information on making a tax free donation to our Verein.

Examples of gifts in the current registry include:

  • new office furniture to replace the worn 30+ year old furniture
  • provide computer equipment for staff, fellows, and interns
  • funds to expand our IT capabilities, and more!

Take a look at the registry and respond generously with a gift that has special meaning to you or a loved one.

If you currently own something on the gift registry and no longer need it, you may donate it to the Institute in lieu of a cash gift.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. The “Above and Beyond” Gift Program is a great way to commemorate an anniversary, birthday, or special occasion. It is also a wonderful way to honor the memory of a loved one through a special gift that reflects that love.

You can give as little as $1 and get the same level of choice, transparency, and feedback that is traditionally reserved for someone who gives millions.

If a partially funded project expires, donors get their donations returned as account credits, which they can use to:

  • Choose a new project to support or
  • Have us choose a new project for you

Aside from the joy of seeing your special gift at work for AICGS’ mission in and around the Institute, gifts will be acknowledged with a card or letter to the honoree or their family and to you as the donor.

As a 501(c)3 charity, donations are tax-deductible to the full extent of U.S. law. Our federal tax ID # is 52-1309525.

Special gifts are intended to fall outside of, or “Above and Beyond,” regular giving, which supports the general operations and budget of the Institute. Special gifts are just that—special—and they should reflect the giver’s desire to make a contribution outside normal donations.

The Registry is intended to reflect identified items that are needed by AICGS and our programs. If you would like to give an alternative gift, or provide something unique and special to you in memory of a loved one, feel free to discuss your idea with our staff.

Donors may give a one-time or continuing contribution to the “Above and Beyond” Gift Program without specifying a particular gift, and the Institute will apply the funds toward gifts that are most needed.

Don’t let a limited budget keep you from giving the gift of your choice. You may choose to pay for a gift over time, or give an amount toward a gift in the Registry. For many gifts, several givers may be needed. Let’s do this together!
