AICGS Press Release, September 14, 2006

For Immediate Release:

Dear Colleagues,

Please allow me to advise you of some new developments at the Institute.

Dr. Cathleen Fisher, who has done such a terrific job at the Institute during the past four years, has accepted a new job opportunity at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) here in Washington D.C, where she will be assuming the position of Vice President for Institutional Relations. As sad as we are to see Cathleen leave AICGS, this is a wonderful professional opportunity for her which I know she will be able to meet with the same excellence she displayed first as Associate Director and then Deputy Director here. We are very grateful for the fine work she has done for us. With her help and engagement, we have been able to expand and strengthen our capacities and resources significantly and we will continue to build on that momentum.

In order to maintain our pace and productivity, I am pleased to inform you that Prof. Stephen Szabo will be joining us as Director of Research. Stephen is Professor for European Studies at our own School for Advanced International Studies (SAIS) at Johns Hopkins. An engaged and committed supporter of AICGS for the past two decades, he has been Chairman of our Advisory Council during the past six years. He is a leading scholar in the field of German-American affairs, recognized throughout the U.S. and Germany for his extensive work and contributions.

Stephen continues to teach at SAIS and will also oversee our projects and publications. Stephen is well aware of the Institute's agenda, partners and needs on both sides of the Atlantic and he is looking forward to leading our research program.

We wish Cathleen continued success in her new job and we thank her immensely for her impressive and great work for us. Her last day at the Institute is September 15. I know that she will want to continue close contact with the Institute as we do with her.

Dr. Jackson Janes
Executive Director
