Dr. Kerstin Martens

Kerstin Martens

Kerstin Martens is Assistant Professor at the University of Bremen. She works at the "Transformation of the State" Collaborative Research Center and heads the research project on "Internationalization of Education Policy."

During her stay at AICGS, Kerstin is conducting her research on education policy, working on a project which seeks to examine "Why is There No PISA Shock in the U.S.? A Comparison of American and German Education Policy."

Kerstin studied Political Science and International Relations in Münster, Bordeaux, and Nottingham, where she received her MA. She holds a Ph.D. in Social and Political Science from the European University Institute in Florence, Italy.

Major publications include: Martens, Kerstin, Alessandra Rusconi and Kathrin Leuze (eds.) New Arenas of Education Governance - The Impact of International Organisations and Markets on Educational Policymaking, Palgrave 2007; Martens, Kerstin: NGOs and the United Nations - Institutionalization, Professionalization and Adaptation (Palgrave 2005).

Her research interests include education policy, human rights and international organizations, in particular the UN, the OECD, and non-governmental organizations.
