Dr. Mike Zapp is a DAAD/AICGS Research Fellow at AICGS in Fall 2017 and will be a research fellow at the Stanford Graduate School of Education in Spring and Summer 2018.
Before coming to Washington, he was a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Education and Society at the University of Luxembourg. He is interested in institutional change processes in educational systems, particularly higher education, with a strong focus on the role of international organizations. His research has appeared in journals such as Comparative Education Review, the International Journal of Educational Development, and Science and Public Policy.
At AICGS, Dr. Zapp will carry out the research project “Americanizing German Higher Education? Excellence, Stratification, Managerialism, and the Emergence of the German ‘Super Research University.’” He will analyze the major changes in German higher education in the past two decades, contrasting these with U.S. experiences and providing evidence of potential convergence in higher education policymaking in the two countries.
