Former DAAD/AICGS Fellow Dr. Gunther Hellmann and Ulrich Roos, both of Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt, argue that while reform of the UN Security Council is long overdue, Germany's chances of achieving membership have been hindered by its own actions at the UN and in foreign policy. This essay will appear in the October 2007 edition of Internationale Politik and is available in German only.

Alexander Ritzmann, a former DAAD/AICGS Fellow and a senior research fellow at the European Foundation for Democracy, attempts to answer the question of what drives terrorists, and specifically, "why they hate us so much." The recently-concluded European Union Brussels Summit presented a sober picture of the current state of Europe, according to Michael Hanpeter, a frequent contributor to AICGS, in his essay, "After the EU Summit: Pause or Plateau?" Hanpeter writes that after the summit, a fundamental question arises: has European integration effectively reached a set of qualitative limits?
