AICGS' 25th Anniversary
During the week of June 2, AICGS held several events in Berlin on the occasion of the Institute's 25th anniversary. Highlighting the week were a symposium on the implications of the U.S. elections for the German-American relationship and a gala dinner celebrating the Institute's 25 years. Policy Report 32: Crossing the Red Lines?
In AICGS Policy Report #32, "Crossing the Red Lines? The Grand Coalition and the Paradox of German Foreign Policy," former DAAD/AICGS Fellow Dr. Franz-Josef Meiers discusses the challenges of German foreign policy through the prism of three case studies, focusing on the ISAF mission in Afghanistan and how Germany's domestic political climate has dictated many of its actions.

The Iranian Predicament in Germany's Relations

Germany's Struggle with University Tuition Fees
While the current debate in Hesse was likely just a political stunt, Germany's growing debate about college tuition fees highlights the lack of funding to keep Germany's universities competitive, writes AICGS Senior Fellow Dr. Tim Stuchtey. In order for Germany to enter into the top level of international higher education, Dr. Stuchtey argues, more funding is necessary and tuition fees are a place to start.

Bringing together an interdisciplinary group of scholars and experts from Germany and the United States, this off-the-record workshop discusses the German and American perspectives on terrorism in the transatlantic context and implications for German and American domestic and foreign policy.

On July 1, 2008, AICGS and the American Jewish Council will hold a conference on "German-Israeli Relations Sixty Years Later: Are They Still Special?" This conference will examine from a variety of perspectives the German-Israeli relationship on the occasion of Israel's sixtieth anniversary and how this relationship will evolve in the twenty-first century.

Save the Date: 14th Annual Global Leadership Award Dinner
On November 13, 2008, AICGS will hold its fourteenth annual Global Leadership Award Dinner at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City. At this year's gala, the Institute will celebrate its 25th Anniversary, and for the first time in its history, AICGS will honor two award recipients:
Richard D. Parsons, Chairman of the Board of Time Warner Inc. and Mathias Döpfner, CEO of Axel Springer AG. Deputy Secretary of the Treasury Robert M. Kimmitt will present the award to both distinguished recipients on this special evening.
