Jenny Wüstenberg DAAD/AICGS Fellow
Jenny Wüstenberg is a doctoral candidate in the Department of Government and Politics at the University of Maryland, College Park. Jenny's research interests focus on the politics of memorialization in democratic states and the drivers of change in political culture. Her doctoral dissertation, entitled "Civil Society Activism and the Making of 'Capital Memory': Commemorating Historical Injustice in Berlin and Washington, D.C." takes a comparative perspective on the main actors in memory politics. She argues that the nature of civil society involvement in memory politics in the two capitals help to explain their divergent approaches to dealing with and representing the past. Before coming to Maryland to begin the graduate program in 2002, Jenny completed a Masters degree in International Communications at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia and a Bachelors degree in International Relations at the University of Sussex at Brighton in the United Kingdom. She grew up mainly in Frankfurt am Main. In addition to her scholarly research, Jenny is interested in the development of rigorous qualitative methodologies, as well as in college-level education. She is an active participant in the University of Maryland's Center for Teaching Excellence and enjoys teaching courses on international relations, comparative politics, the European Union, and cultural politics.
