Mr. Alan H. Fleischmann

Alan H. Fleischmann is managing director of the ImagineNations™ Group. ImagineNations is a global alliance of social entrepreneurs, thought leaders, investors, financial institutions, global brands, media and organizations - all working together to empower and inspire a new generation of successful youth investment and employment in the developing world by providing young entrepreneurs with the financial resources through the launching of investment funds, training initiatives, and business coaching they need to work, participate in internships or apprenticeships, or start micro-enterprises and small businesses.

For several years, Fleischmann has been the senior vice president of Penn, Schoen, & Berland Associates (PSB), the global corporate and political consulting firm that specializes in strategic communications & messaging, market & opinion research, image and crisis management, brand & executive positioning, and corporate reputation. As an advisor of political and corporate strategy, he has worked with a range of Fortune 100 corporations, and their chief executives and top leadership. Clients include Bill Gates and Microsoft, Bill Ford and Ford Motor Company, Jeffrey Immelt and General Electric (GE), Prime Minister Tony Blair, President Bill Clinton, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, among others.

Fleischmann served two terms as the chief of staff to Maryland Lt. Governor Kathleen Kennedy Townsend. In this capacity, he was responsible for directing and overseeing policy development, daily operations, legislative relations, and staff activities of their State House office. He coordinated the work of six cabinet departments, government offices, and agencies with particular emphasis on the development of the state budget ranging from business, commerce, transportation, & economic development, to the state police and the criminal & juvenile justice systems. He served as a member of the Governor's Cabinet.

Previously, he served as the staff director of the Committee on Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere of the U.S. Congress. As staff director, he was instrumental in the development, negotiations, and passage of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). In addition, Fleischmann served in an advisory support capacity to the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and was granted Top Secret (Code Word) D.O.D. Security Clearance. During his tenure, he focused on all aspects of U.S. policy toward Canada, Latin America and the Caribbean, including U.S. policy toward Haiti during political transitions, U.S. counter-narcotics programs and policies, U.S. environmental policy and the protection of the indigenous peoples of the Amazon, the consolidation of the Central American peace processes, U.S.-Cuba policy, and the debt crises, among other matters.  During this period, he also traveled extensively throughout the hemisphere meeting with senior government officials, civil society leaders, and opposition party officials.

Prior to serving in the Congress, he was the vice president of the private trade finance company, LATCORP, Inc. (Latin American Trade Corporation) after working as senior associate of the Chase Manhattan Private Bank in New York and Argentina, where he was a graduate of their senior executive training program. During the historic period of the fall of the Berlin Wall, he served as a policy aide in the German Bundestag, working with former German Chancellor Willy Brandt and his foundation, while receiving a fellowship at the Friedrich Wilhelms Universität.

Fleischmann has served on the Board of Directors of Wachovia Bank's flagship wealth management arm, OFFITBANK, an independent private bank with more than $13 billion in assets under management.  Fleischmann is a senior director of Stonebridge International. He is the managing trustee of the Lauer Foundation and a lifetime member of the Council on Foreign Relations.

Fleischmann received a M.A. from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), where he serves as a board member and chair of its Latin America committee. He received a B.A. from American University, where he was valedictorian and student body president. He also serves on several foundation and university boards including the board of the School of International Service (SIS) of American University and on the board of the School of Public Policy (SPP) of the University of Maryland. He is a member of the board of the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Medical Center and the board of the World Security Institute (WSI). Fleischmann is a councilmember of the Brookings Institution and has been a guest lecturer at Institute of Politics of Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government.  He has also been a technical consultant to Paramount Motion Pictures on an upcoming film.

Fleischmann is married to Dafna Tapiero, the head of a new global fund at the International Finance Corporation (IFC) that focuses on sustainable community benefits from oil, gas, and mining industry investments. They are proud parents of two young daughters. He speaks German and Spanish.
